Accounting Certifications

Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE): The WVU Tech BS-Accounting -Fraud Management Track and Certificate in Fraud Examination prepare the students to take the CFE exam. The exam is sponsored by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Certified Examiners can work as Fraud Investigator, Fraud Examiner etc. either in the private sector or in the government organizations such as FBI, IRS etc. For more information go to www.acfe.com

Certified Management Accountants (CMA): Upon completion of our BS- Accounting Program, the students are eligible to take the CMA exam. This exam is sponsored by the Institute of Management Accountants. The certified Management Accountants analyze operations and costs to find out ways to improve operations and product quality while reducing cots. Certified Public Accountants (CPA): After completing additional 22 credit hours (over and above 128 credit hours needed for BS-Accounting) by taking minor in Fraud Examination / Finance or taking graduate level courses, our students are eligible to take the CPA exam. This exam is sponsored by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The certified Public Accountants can perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, information technology services, tax, and consulting activities for their clients, which may be corporations, governments, nonprofit organizations or individuals. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA): After completing our BS-Accounting Program, the students are eligible to take the CIA exam. This exam is sponsored by the Institute of Internal Auditors. The certified Internal Auditors can work for private and public companies, hospitals, non-profit organizations, and government organizations. They examine and evaluate their firms’ financial and information systems, management procedures, and internal controls to ensure that records are accurate and controls are adequate. Enrolled Agent (EA): After completing our BS-Accounting Program, the students are eligible to sit for the EA exam. Enrolled agents are the federally authorized tax practitioners and can represent tax payers before the IRS. This exam is sponsored by the National Association of Tax Practitioners.
